The UCSF-East Bay Surgery Program is comprised of faculty from the UCSF Department of Surgery and Kaiser Northern California with a general surgery residency program based at Highland Hospital and Kaiser Oakland that is among the most competitive and highly sought after in the nation. As a teaching institution, we are passionate about surgical education. We aspire to train the next generation of surgeons and have over fifty outstanding surgical residents — diverse, accomplished and deeply committed — matched with accessible and supportive surgical faculty. We also have a strong research enterprise emblematic of our role as academic surgeons, bringing scientific discovery to the patient bedside and giving back to the community.

Our faculty includes attending surgeons at Alameda Health System-Highland Hospital, the East Bay’s only Adult Level 1 Trauma Center, Kaiser Oakland a tertiary referral center for Northern California, and Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, the East Bay’s only Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center. We provide state-of-the-art emergency and trauma care to the residents of Oakland, Alameda County and the surrounding region.
